PLANET: Reducing Our Environmental Impact
We actively work to minimise our carbon footprint and environmental impact by:
- Low Carbon Tours: All of our tours, except one, are conducted on foot, reducing transport emissions. Public transport options are available for reaching our meeting points.
- Remote Operations: Our administrative team works from home, eliminating the need for a central office and reducing commuting emissions.
- Digital First Approach: All tickets and communications are electronic, eliminating unnecessary printing and paper waste.
- Sustainable Food Choices:
- We offer plentiful vegetarian and vegan-friendly options on our tours, reducing the carbon footprint associated with meat consumption.
- Our suppliers use locally sourced and seasonal ingredients to support sustainable food practices.
- Minimising Food Waste:
- Exact portions are pre-ordered from each establishment to avoid excess waste.
- Tour offerings are carefully curated to ensure enjoyable, appropriate portions without over-serving.
- Plastic-Free Commitment:
- We avoid single-use plastics in all aspects of our tours.
- Partner establishments, such as Snackwallah, use biodegradable packaging and wooden cutlery.
- Respecting Nature & Wildlife:
- Our routes stick to public pathways, reducing our impact on green spaces and local wildlife.
PEOPLE: Supporting Local Communities & Inclusivity
Triple A Food Tours is deeply committed to the well-being of the communities we operate in. We ensure that our tours benefit local businesses, support local employment, and provide an inclusive experience for all guests.
- Supporting Local Businesses:
- We exclusively partner with independent, locally owned establishments, ensuring that our tours directly benefit small businesses and the local economy.
- We visit historic and culturally significant markets, such as the Grainger Market in Newcastle and Durham Indoor Market, further supporting local vendors and craftspeople.
- Employment & Fair Wages:
- All of our tour guides are local residents, creating jobs and sharing authentic knowledge of the region.
- Inclusive & Accessible Tourism:
- Our tours are LGBTQ+ friendly, and we strive to create a welcoming environment for all guests.
- We accommodate guests with disabilities and mobility issues wherever possible, tailoring our routes accordingly (note: the Ouseburn tour is the only exception as the Victoria Tunnel cannot accommodate wheelchairs).
- We provide clear accessibility information before booking to ensure all guests can comfortably enjoy our experiences.
PLACES: Preserving Cultural & Culinary Heritage
We recognise the importance of preserving the character and cultural heritage of the locations we operate in. Our commitment includes:
- Promoting Local History & Food Culture:
- We celebrate regional culinary traditions and educate guests about the history and significance of the food they experience.
- We highlight the importance of sourcing ingredients locally and seasonally to preserve traditional foodways.
- Responsible Tourism Practices:
- Our small group sizes ensure minimal disruption to local communities.
- We encourage responsible travel behaviour among our guests, such as respecting local customs, using public transport to reach our tours, supporting independent artisans, and reducing waste during tours.
